The Central Library will be built on the southeast corner of the Spring Garden Road and Queen Street intersection. A land transfer between the province and HRM was completed in January 2010.

Currently, the site is a surfaced parking lot adjacent to the Dalhousie University, Faculty of Architecture and Planning Building.
